  • Glasgow APA Laboratory's Scientific Advisor assists Scottish Fire and Rescue Service

    The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) Operations Control Centre in Johnstone received a call at 3.09am today (26 September) advising of an industrial unit on fire in Eastmuir Street in Glasgow’s East End. Appliances were initially mobilised from Easterhouse Community Fire Station and on arrival the crews were met with an extensive fire and quickly requested additional resources. The incident involved a chemical processing plant containing significant quantities of flammable liquids, and following a risk assessment, the Incident Commander also requested the attendance of the SFRS Environmental Protection Unit and a Scientific Advisor. Meanwhile, crews donned breathing apparatus and used two main jets to fight the fire whilst their colleagues entered neighbouring units to check for fire spread.

  • Glasgow APA Lab achieve European Proficiency Success

    Staff at Glasgow Scientific Services' Calibration & Test Centre recently participated in a Proficiency Test Scheme for Mass (Weight). The final report has recently been released and the results obtained reflected the professionalism and dedication of all the staff. The measured results were all within the criteria set by the organising body. The Calibration & Test Centre was also the only participant from within the United Kingdom; other participants were from Denmark, Belgium and The Netherlands.

  • Glasgow Scientific Services participate in Comparative Forensic Sciences summer programme

    15 September 2013

    Glasgow Caledonian University in partnership with California State University Long Beach ran a summer programme in Comparative Forensic Sciences for 27 students. A visit to Glasgow Scientific Services was also included providing the students with a real insight into forensic investigations involving unknown powders, arson and environmental samples.
