Three annual reviews of legislation (both UK and EU) covering the periods 2005/06, 2006/07 and 2007/08 have been posted on the Government Chemist website In general the themes dealt with include:
- Food Safety – including, for example, contaminants and additives
- Consumer Choice and Prevention of Fraud – including composition and general labelling
- Health and Nutrition – including nutrition labelling, nutrients and supplements
- Regulation – dealing with regulatory activities, and
- Feed and fertilisers.
The reviews will be of interest to those studying for the Mastership in Chemical Analysis, as a rapid overview when reporting and/or interpreting results or for a general update on legislation in force and emerging issues. The material can be found at:

Recommended reading list for food additives: Dr Stephen Johnson of FSA has provided a reading list for those wishing to learn more about food additives. This is provided primarily as a follow-up to the lecture on the subject in the April 2007 Reading Training course.

Food Standards Agency Training Resources
There are other training resources, including videos, available on the Food Standards Agency website. Although these resources are intended primarily for EHO’s and TSO’s, they are also useful to public analysts and their staff. At the present time there are no resources specifically dedicated to public analysts
