    This seminar follows from a successful session at ‘Reading 2012’ and will take the form of a ‘Court Interactive’.

  • DNA extraction seminar (approaches to support food labelling enforcement) 5th March 2014

    To provide practical advice, guidance and training to support the isolation of high quality DNA from a range of different tissue types and matrices.

    DNA-based techniques have proved powerful in combating food fraud and assuring food authenticity. Following a series of successful Defra/FSA Knowledge Transfer (KT) events held at LGC’s Headquarters in South West London (Teddington), LGC will be hosting a further KT event to provide Public Analysts with best practice guidance and to disseminate knowledge within this critical area.

  • One Day Conference Accredited and Traceable Measurements in Food Laboratories

    The British Measurement and Testing Association -One Day Conference - Accredited and Traceable Measurements in Food Laboratories To be held at the Hauser Forum, University of Cambridge on 6 November 2013. Cost £190 including lunch. Speakers from LGC, Fera, Schneider Electric and Newcastle University. Full details can be found on attached booking form.

    BMTA presents two separate event streams covering respectively accredited and traceable measurements in medical/clinical and in food laboratories. The UKAS presentations will emphasise the importance of accreditation and traceability for food and medical laboratories and a review will be given of changes and developments at UKAS. After the keynote UKAS presentation, delegates will be able to take part in either the Food or Medical event and then come together at the end of the day for a review of the proceedings. The Food Programme is presented at a time when the ‘horsemeat scandal’ has highlighted the need to know the exact constituents of processed food products. In one of the presentations, LGC will look at the need for reference materials and proficiency testing to address urgent issues that arise in the food industry. Representatives of FERA and Schneider Electric will discuss traceability and authenticity in foods and detection and quantification of horsemeat in food products. Future quality control requirements will be discussed by a representative of the Newcastle University Human Nutrition Research Centre.
