  • Aberdeen Public Analyst Laboratory Finds a New Home

    Food Standards Scotland acknowledges a “long term under investment in local authority scientific services laboratories” as the move of Aberdeen Scientific Services Laboratory (ASSL) is announced. The lab will relocate from Old Aberdeen to the James Hutton Institute’s campus in Craigiebuckler on the west side of the city.

  • Alastair Low, Public Analyst, of Minton Treharne & Davies (MTD) has been filmed by BBC Wales for the Welsh Panorama style program ‘Week In Week Out’ following some testing MTD had undertaken for the BBC to determine the nitrogen/protein content of body building supplements. One was found to be exceptionally low (incredibly one fortieth the declared amount). The program is due to be aired on Tuesday 3rd March 22:40 BBC1 Wales, but will also be available on the BBC i-player. The program is looking into supplements (body building), their effect and also is the consumer getting what they expect. Filming took place at MTD’s Cross Hands lab of a piece showing some of the testing in addition to interview of Alastair.

    Philip Hall, APA President between 1979 and 1981, has died at the age of 94. His funeral took place on 7th August 2014, at St Mary and St Michael, Stoke Charity, Hants, SO21 3PG.
