  • FVO audit of the UK: 16 - 27 APRIL 2012: Bivalve Molluscs

The Food and Veterinary office (FVO) has advised that they intend to carry out an audit in the UK in order to evaluate the control systems in place governing the production and placing on the market of bivalve molluscs from 16th - 27th April.

The objectives of the audit are to:

Verify that official controls of bivalve molluscs, echinoderms, tunicates and marine gastropods are organised and carried out in accordance with the relevant provisions of Regulation (EC) No 882/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2004 on official controls performed to ensure the verification of compliance with feed and food law, animal health and animal welfare rules1.
Evaluate whether the control system in place for the production and placing on the market of bivalve molluscs, echinoderms, tunicates and marine gastropods is in compliance with EU requirements.

The Agency will be drawing up an itinerary for the audit which will include:

Provision for discussions with regional and local official or approved services involved in the areas covered by the audit.
Visits to live bivalve molluscs production and relaying areas, purification and dispatch centres and processing establishments.

It is possible that the Agency may contact your local authority with a view to participating in the audit. You should take this opportunity to ensure that controls at relevant businesses within your area are working effectively.
