As part of the APA Annual Conference 17 delegates enjoyed an entertaining and informative tour of Fuller’s brewery in Chiswick, West London on 22 October 2015. The visit was supported by the APA Educational Trust which views factory visits as extremely beneficial to those studying for MChemA and for practising Public Analysts to foster a better awareness of food production. Fuller’s is an independent family regional brewery founded in 1845 and the tour included sight of some of the original brewing vessels as well as the modern high-tech facilities on the site. The opportunity to smell and taste different cultivars of malted barley as well as hops, and of course the finished product, alongside expert commentary from a tour guide with a chemistry background were among the highlights.
