  • BBC Radio 4 - Are food testing levels dropping?

A recent BBC Radio 4 edition of the consumer programme “You and Yours” discussed “Are food testing levels dropping - and should we be concerned?”  With contributions from APA President Jon Griffin, the item highlighted concerns relating to the reduced numbers of samples being routinely tested for evidence of contamination or adulteration.

The presenter referred to interim statistics   published by the Food Standards Agency which show a 20 % fall in numbers of food standards samples taken in the UK between 2015-16 and 2016-17. Over the same period the fall in England was 25%.  Also interviewed was Neil Parish Conservative MP for Tiverton and Honiton who has recently become chair of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee who hinted that the Committee might be looking into food sampling.
