  • Aberdeen APA lab finds histamine in canned anchovies

Following work carried out by Aberdeen Scientific Services Laboratory on behalf of the Environmental Health Directorate of Malta, there has been a recall of tins of Princes brand anchovies in that country bearing the lot codes L-C089 and L-C036. The two batches in question failed to satisfy the requirements of Regulation (EC) 2073/2005 on microbiological criteria for foodstuffs which establishes maximum levels of histamine in fishery products from fish species associated with a high amount of histidine. These include anchovy which is a small, common salt-water forage fish of the family Engraulidae.
