  • INVESTMENT IN WOLVERHAMPTON LABORATORIES ENHANCES TESTING CAPABILITIES

    Eurofins Food and Water Testing UK and Ireland has strengthened its position as a leader in its field by giving the green light on an expansion of laboratories at its Wolverhampton headquarters. The £1.5million investment will increase capacity at the i54 site and will bring even greater food and water testing capabilities, underlining the firm’s commitment to innovation. The 1,000 square metre development will see food microbiology laboratories expanded on the ground floor, while water hygiene testing will be expanded in a new first floor extension, alongside a larger staff canteen. This enhances the overall capabilities of the site, complimenting the investment in the expansion of food chemistry and contaminants that was completed in 2016.

  • Successful APA Training Course

    A course entitled "Analysis & Examination of Food" run by the Government Chemist and the APA Educational Trust held last month at the University of Reading proved to be a great success with the participants. This postgraduate course had the focus and sense of enjoyment that characterises a good summer school. The sunshine and verdant Reading campus also helped. The commitment of the delegates to long days of intense learning, the dedication and expertise of the lecturers and good organisation made it the success it was. Thirteen delegates, all experienced scientists in their own right, benefited from the course. Mainly from UK Public Analyst Laboratories the intake had an international flavour with two scientists from Gibraltar and one from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China. All delegate feedback was overwhelmingly positive. The course, over a two year cycle, offers a distinctive learning experience, validated by active practitioners in the APA Training Committee, with unique features

  • Jon Griffin addresses Kent Local Section of the Royal Society of Chemistry

    APA President Jon Griffin recently spoke to the Kent Local Section of the Royal Society of Chemistry. The talk which was given on Thursday 23rd March was titled "The Role of the Public Analyst-Food Safety for Thought" and covered the history of the Public Analyst, the UK network of Public Analyst laboratories, the scope of work carried out and an insight into the way the laboratories protect the public from the food they eat and those who may adulterate it potentially causing harm.
