Death of Ron Nicolson MChemA FRSC 1930-2017

It is with great sadness that the Association announces that Ron Nicolson died on 12th March 2017 at the age of 87. Ron was President of the APA from 1988 – 1990.

APA President discusses the role of Public Analysts with Plymouth University students

APA president Jon Griffin, recently spoke to students at Plymouth University as part of a series of Royal Society of Chemistry lectures. The talk covered the history of the Public Analyst role, the network of labs, the range of analysis carried out and the techniques involved as well as the route through the MChemA qualification and the future of the service.

Edinburgh Scientific Services Expand PCR and Legionella Testing

Edinburgh Scientific Services (ESS) have announced that its PCR testing UKAS accreditation scope has been extended. The laboratory is one of only a small handful in the UK that hold generic/flexible scope for any bacteria in any food, water or environmental sample.

Two successful prosecutions after APA laboratory detects beef in lamb curry samples

Cardiff Public Analyst laboratory, Minton Treharne & Davies recently carried out analysis of lamb curry samples which lead to successful prosecutions by Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council due to beef being detected in the samples.
