President addresses international Food Symposium in China
Alan Richards, President of the Association was invited by the Government Chemist in Hong Kong to speak at the inaugural international symposium on food analysis and related quality issues. The symposium was held in Guangzhou on the 23-24 November 2007 and was organised by the Guangdong and Liangning provinces of China in collaboration with the Government Chemist laboratory in Hong Kong.
Alan was one of only 4 international speakers to be invited to present information at the two-day event; where he spoke on food enforcement in the UK. Alan said :
"it was a great honour to be invited to speak at such an important event. China is sometimes thought by the western world to have many food safety issues. However, having seen how the government laboratories are set up and the many thousands of tests they carry out I am confident that the perceptions of widespread safety issues are not true. The laboratories are equipped with some of the most modern instruments and the level of quality control within the laboratories is impressive. All food safety testing for enforcement in China is done inside government run facilities.".
The other international speakers included Peter Brown and Michael Walker. Peter Brown is a Public Analyst based in Norfolk. Michael Walker is the Training Officer of the Association of Public Analysts and a former Public Analyst now working as a consultant.
The text of Alan’s presentation and the slides he presented are available (note: the slides may take some time to download).
