United Kingdom and European Legislation
The work of Public Analysts relies heavily on a knowledge of legislation relating to the enforcement of food, animal feed, environment and consumer law.
In order to assist in keeping Members abreast this section lists UK and EU legislation relevant to the work of the Public Analyst Service. This legislation listing may also be of use to Environmental Health Officers, Trading Standards Officers, and others with an interest in food safety, food quality, environmental protection and consumer safety.
The information is obtained from the legislation section of the Office of Public Sector Information website and from the Official Journal L Series (Legislation) published on the Eur-Lex Website.
The legislative position within the UK is now complex with separate (and often duplicate) legislation emanating from the UK Parliament, the Scottish Parliament, the Welsh Assembly and the Northern Ireland Assembly. A further complication is that some legislation issued by the UK Parliament applies only to parts of the UK. To aid navigation the Statutory Instruments from the various legislative bodies are listed separately.
