Public Analyst and Government Chemist Combine to Detect Deficiency is Fish Fingers
The Public Analyst for Buckinghamshire Trading Standards found a formal sample of fish fingers to contain 57% fish when 65% was declared on the label. The third "referee" portion of the sample was submitted to the Government Chemist to obtain a definitive result. The Government Chemist found a fish content of 53%±5.7% which was in good agreement with the Public Analyst. The trader was prosecuted and found guilty on two counts with fines of £2,500 levied on each charge.
